Typhoon Haiyan Benefit Dinner for the Philippines

Ever since Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines and devastated thousands of people in surrounding areas of Tacloban city, people from around the world have been chipping in to send aid for the victims. Agnes Higley, my pageant director, along with other Filipino Utahns have been working non-stop during the last few years to organize a fundraiser, from collecting donations to hosting a benefit dinner. I got an opportunity to help out at the dinner by collecting raffle tickets. The turnout was great! We even ran out of places to sit for the guests!

One of our special guests was Angelica Galindez, Miss Philippines Water USA 2014. What a great person to have at this event since she's Filipino and she represents water! She's a unique individual because even though she has alopecia (a condition that causes her immune system to eat her hair follicles), she proves that pageant queens don't look like one specific mold.

The food was delicious! I gobbled it up so fast that if I didn't take a picture, I would've forgotten what I ate!

Our emcee for the night did such a great job!

These ballroom dance performers did so great even though they only had a small space to work with!

Jack Chen represented the Utah Taiwanese community to donate $2,000 to the fundraiser! Thank you so much, Jack!

The lovely owners of Kobe Royal Garden Restaurant were so gracious to let us use their space!

Absolutely wonderful to see a lot of familiar faces and a great turnout for this amazing cause! I enjoyed the people, food, and entertainment. We must always remember that while we sit in our comfortably heated homes with ample food and clothing, there are others who don't even have shelter for reasons they cannot control. Helping hands is what makes the world go 'round. Very proud of everyone for their collaborative efforts to assist the Philippines!

OCA's Awards Gala Dinner

Boneet (Miss Asia Utah 2012) and I made an appearance at OCA's (Organization of Chinese Americans) awards dinner to sell calendars that will raise money for the Philippines and to speak about our platform.

With the lovely Miss Angela Wong, the emcee for the evening.

Mika Lee is one of my dear friends that is heavily involved in the Asian community.

Liz Muniz was my former landlord, but I still keep in touch with this sweet woman! She is running for Utah House District 33. Make sure you vote for her if you live in West Valley!

The food looked yummy! But we didn't have any since we couldn't stay long enough to eat.

With Eunice Jones! We love her to pieces :)

Speaking on our platforms. I got more nervous than I expected! But luckily, everyone's faces in the audience was so kind and welcoming :)

With Karen Kwan, president of OCA. Thanks for having us! You are always so nice and kind.

Emilio Camu, the former AASA president and Sudha Shrestha, the current AASA president. So proud of what you guys are doing for the community!

Also, congratulations to all of the award recipients! It was a pleasure to see everyone, of all backgrounds, attend this event in the community. Love the change that we're making and the things that we're accomplishing as Asian Americans in Utah.

Access Asia

Access Asia is a friendly annual competition between local Asian and Pacific restaurants, hosted by the Utah Asian Chamber of Commerce. The winning business is decided through votes of the public, who can attend and try the food by paying a cover charge. I got an opportunity to help out at the event by helping collect votes. The food was very good! Everyone did such a great job. There was no way I would be able to decide on a winner.

Some of the attendees :)

A sample of some of the dishes that were made for the competition :)

The participating restaurants and awards :)

Business representatives giving speeches.

Big thanks to the Utah Asian Chamber of Commerce for putting on this event! I attended last year as a member of the public, but had no idea I'd be returning this year as a volunteer.

Love these wonderful ladies! Thanks for always looking over me :)
